My All Time Favourite Skincare Products

Hey lovelies,

Today I thought I'd feature my all time favourite skincare products that as of yet I will continually repurchase as I so far find these are the best of the best. Especially, as I beauty blog I do try a wide range of skincare so it does take a lot for a product to stand out to me and get me to repurchase.

1. Emma Hardie Amazing Face Cleansing Balm (My review | Link) | Link - I've adored this stuff ever since my very first purchase way, way back in 2009 and since then continuously go back to this every single time, no matter what balm I've previously tried this stuff always comes out on top. This is great for all skin types of all ages and I recommend it to anyone that wants clear, healthy skin.
2. Clarisonic Mia 2 | Link - This isn't photographed above but is a product I've now owned for about 2-3 years and can't really imagine my skin without it. It honestly made such a dramatic difference to my skin and I notice a difference straight away when I stop using it. I have a review upcoming for this in the next couple of weeks so keep an eye out, as it will also feature my review on the decongested clarisonic set. 
3. Origins Drink Up Intensive and Origins Drink Up Face Masks | Link - These two are honestly great and I continuously use these interchangeably. I prefer the intensive more during the winter months and the general Drink Up during the summer when my skin isn't as dehydrated. I also think these are fab to use on long plane flights where your skin always gets a bit dry and yucky. 
4. Caudalie Beauty Elixr (My review | Link) | Link - This skin beautifying spray is perfect all year round, but especially during the summer when your skin needs a quick refresh. I adore using this in so many different ways from using it as my toner in the morning with my skincare routine, using it as a primer for my foundation, using it to set my makeup and to give it a more natural/glowy look or to even refresh my face throughout the day. Overall, this is just a great product that smells delightful and I get along with perfectly.
5. Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate | Link - This oil is beautiful and smells absolutely amazing, I've had this for about a year now and I've still got more than 3/4 of the bottle left! Which is amazing to say I use it nearly 3-4 times a week. I've got a post upcoming of a review of this oil that will be going up soon so check that out to find out more and how to use it.
6. La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo + | Link - This has been a staple in my skincare for so long I can barely remember what it was like not to use this. The Effaclar Duo is another great product to use in many different ways, from as a light daytime moisturiser, a spot treatment or a primer. This works even for the most sensitive of skin types so if you're more on the dry side, don't hesitate!
7. Origins A Perfect World Moisturiser | Link - I love this stuff so much!! This is my first ever jar of this coca-cola smelling moisturiser and I can already confidently say that it won't be my last. I use it as a nighttime mosituriser and adore the effect it leaves on my skin for the next day. It's softer, smoother and hydrated. 
8. Pixi Glow Tonic | Link - This chemical exfoliator is perfect for absolutely any skin type. It's designed to resurface and revitalise the skin whilst also soothing this skin. Therefore, resulting in glowing, luminous, smooth skin. The likes of infamous Caroline Hiron's adores this product, which just shows how much this is a must have for anyones skincare stash.
9. Bioderma Sensibo H20 | Link - My must have product for taking off any and all eye make up, and the addition of the rest of my make up, It's perfect because it gets everything off without me having to tug my skin nor does it irritate it.

My Basic Skincare Must Haves

Today I thought I'd do a feature today where I showcase all my basic must have skincare products and my recommendations for each one. As understandably skincare can get quite confusing and when there are so many products to choose from you can easily get overwhelmed and unsure as to what you need to buy and what you don't. Skincare, I personally feel, is the most important part of your regime - more so than makeup. As, if your skin looks good a) you'll need less makeup and b) your makeup will apply a hell of a lot easier. After a quick description of each product there will be a few of my recommendations at the end, with a high end and a drugstore choice.

1. Makeup Remover

A decent makeup remover that works well on both the eyes and skin is key. As you want something gentle around the eyes, so that you don't have to tug, but also something that can remove your foundation. I'd recommend either a micellar water as they're light and super gentle and work, or a cleansing oil as they're a bit heavier but take everything off with major skin benefits. Both work well for either skin types. I own both a micellar water and a cleansing oil, purely because I find the micellar water is easier to travel with. (As seen in my photo, I've decanted it into a smaller, travel-size bottle)

2. Cleanser

Cleansing your skin is super important and shouldn't get mixed up with removing your makeup. Makeup remover takes off your makeup, whereas a cleanser actually cleans your skin and gets inside all your dirty pores (lovely image!). You always go in with a cleanser after you've removed your makeup. Out of every skincare product, cleansers are very subjective to skincare types but personally I recommend ones that actually leave my skin feeling clean and soft, but not dry or tight. I also have quite sensitive skin so something suited to sensitive skin is perfect for me! My favourite types of cleansers are either gel or balm cleansers - gel are normally better suited to combination to oily skin types whereas balms are universal.

3. Exfoliators

Exfoliation is really important for removing dead skin cells and maintaining a glow to your skin. I'd recommend doing once to twice depending on how dry your skin is. Personally, I find exfoliators can be quite difficult to buy as many I've tried have been super harsh and have made my skin worse! I recommend either using a gentle exfoliator/scrub or using a chemical toner as they can be used everyday and are a lot more gentle.

4. Toners

Now, some people believe toners are a pointless task and don't really do anything, but I adore a good toner. They're super refreshing and really calm my skin down. I've already done a post on my all time current favourite two toners, but toners are an all round great product. I recommend buying ones without alcohol in as then they can become super harsh on the skin.

5. SPF

SPF is super important no matter if the weather is rainy or cloudy, you should still protect your skin with a minimum of 25 SPF. I normally apply my SPF over my moisturiser but under my makeup, so I prefer a SPF that isn't greasy or slimy.

6. Eye Cream

Looking after your under eye is a necessity, especially because it's so delicate. I have pretty bad dark circles, so I sometimes like to have a brightening eye cream for daytime and a more heavier, moisturising one to go to bed with.

7. Moisturiser

Besides cleansing and SPF, this is one of the most important steps in a skincare routine. No matter whether you're super dry or extremely oily moisturising your face is extremely important. Especially in the morning before you apply your makeup as it essentially lays a base for your foundation and other products to stick to. Now I have oily skin so I mainly shop for moisturisers suited to my skin type, but I will recommend a few for others.

The Body Shop Aloe Skincare Collection Review {Sensitive Skin}

Today I'm doing a review on one of my all time favourite skincare brands: 'The Body Shop'.  Nearly all products I've tried from there I've enjoyed, their packaging is also always adorable and I love that each skincare collection is categorised based on particular skincare concerns. How To Use

For mornings I first go in with the 'Calming Facial Cleanser' to gently remove any dirty - especially around my sensitive eyes. Then, I wash my face with the 'Gentle Face Wash', then after toning I apply the 'Moisture Lotion'. At night time, I still use the 'Calming Facial Cleanser' to clean my skin - I either use it first on days where I haven't worn makeup or second after using a cleansing oil on days where I have. Then, after completing my night time skincare routine I go in with the 'Night Cream'.

Pro's 

Personally I'm a massive fan so far of this whole range because it does what it says on the tin - soothes sensitive skin. I've noticed when using these products my skin hasn't been as itchy nor as red looking which is great for me as I can now get away with using less foundation! My all time favourite product out of the bunch is the 'Night Cream', its thick and luxurious and lovely to apply to face but doesn't leave my oily-combination skin greasy in the morning. I also adore how gentle the 'Calming Facial Cleanser' is - as I can get away with using it on my eyes without irritating them. I also think the packaging is simple and easy to work with, furthermore the price points for these products are great. Especially, due to the fact The Body Shop has regular sales and offers on online and instore.

Con's

Overall, I don't have any major negatives to say about the products apart from how I felt they worked with my skin. As even though my skin is pretty sensitive, it's also a combination-oily mess so finding the right balance can be tricky. For example, as gentle as the 'Face Wash' was I found it didn't really clean my skin nor get rid of any of the grime that had built up over the night. Furthermore, I'm honestly not a massive fan of the aloe fragrance but have grown used to it due me using this skincare. I also wasn't a massive fan of the 'Moisture Lotion', as even though it has SPF it isn't very high to make much of a difference. I also find it left a white cast on my skin and made me super oily after only two hours of wear!

Should I Buy It?/Do I Recommend?

Overall, I definitely do recommend The Body Shop Aloe Skincare collection and will most definitely be purchasing other products from the line. Out of the products mentioned I would definitely recommend buying the cleanser and the night cream as I personally feel any - and all - skin types will work well with these two products.

Kiehls Oil Eliminator Skincare Review

Today I'm doing a review on a skincare set I bought way back in the Boxing Day sales last year. I featured it in a haul on this blog, which you can view here, and see all the other amazing products I bought. Although I did buy this as a set it sadly is now only sold separately.

Aimed For: Combination to oily skin (and men, although I believe skincare is skincare and isn't specific to a gender purely because it's advertised that way)

How To Use

I used the cleanser once in the morning and then followed with the toner and the lotion. I used different skincare products at night.

Pro's

I personally wasn't a massive of this skincare collection sadly. I found the collection did have quite a lovely smell, but I must admit the fragrance is pretty strong and the first time I used the products I was pretty overwhelmed. Now, after multiple uses I'm pretty used to it and like the scent. My favourite product out of them all was the toner! It was so refreshing and lightweight, and found any excuse during the day to give myself a quick spritz of it. I found the lotion was average, as I found it worked best on days I was planning on wearing make-up. As it did have a great knack at mattifying my skin but still leaving it soft and moisturised. 

Con's

I must admit the fragrance in this skincare collection was heavy so I would definitely be wary for sensitive skin types. I myself was not affected. Furthermore, the cleanser seemed to make 0 difference to my skin which was super disappointing. I also found that even with the use of this whole set my skin still got oily pretty quickly in the day.

Should I Buy It?/Do I Recommend?

Overall, I wouldn't recommend buying most of this skincare collection. The only thing I would say to buy is the toner, I especially feel due to how refreshing it was it would be perfect for any and all skin types.

LUSH 'Angels on Bare Skin' Review

Today I thought I'd finally get around to reviewing my 'Angels on Bare Skin' by LUSH Cosmetics. I have previously used the 'Dark Angels', which is a more hardcore exfoliating cleanser, but it sadly didn't work out as well for my skin, as you can see in my review for it here. So, ultimately that led me to trying the less abrasive, aimed at more sensitive skin types - the 'Angels on Bare Skin'.

This can be purchased at LUSH for £6.75, which I've only just realised now (due to looking back at my 'Dark Angels' review) they've increased the price of, (boo!). This is advertised as a more gentle version of the 'Dark Angels' cleanser and is mainly meant to calm and cleanse.

LUSH states:

This incredibly gentle cleanser is made from 100% natural ingredients. Inspired by a mediaeval recipe and topped off with lavender flowers, this contains kaolin to absorb grease and dirt, leaving skin clean and nourished. Lavender oil and rose absolute calm the skin. As you mix your solid cleanser with water to form a paste, the ground almonds create almond milk which helps to tone and brighten the skin. This can be used all over your body as well as your face. 

Review

Overall, I would recommend this to pretty much any skin type, especially sensitive and dry skin types, as it truly is super gentle on the skin. (Although super oily/acne prone skin types may find this doesn't de-slick their skin enough!). Out of the two cleansers I preferred this one a lot more! I found this cleanser didn't upset my sensitive skin, nor was it a massive mess. 

Although, I found because it was so gentle it barely did anything for my skin - leaving pretty much the same as it was beforehand. Also, for me personally I really did not get along with the smell of this - no matter how many times I used it. Even more so, it obviously couldn't compare to the results of me using my Clarisonic and Purity cleanser.

But, recently I discovered this works as an amazing body cleanser and I actually will repurchase this cleanser to use for this purpose! As, before to this I didn't really use cleansers for my body - just body washes, but this leaves my skin super soft and smooth!

Superfacialist Vitamin C+ Skin Renew Cleansing Oil Review

Hey lovelies,
Welcome to my review today and I believe this post has possibly the longest name, ever. I've been dying to renew this cleansing oil for a while now as it was the first ever cleansing oil I've ever tried! It sells at a purse friendly price of £10.99. Which I feel is a completely fair price for how little you use each time, resulting in it lasting you months on end! (Mine did!) If you haven't heard of 'Superfacialist' it's a brand by Una Brennan who is a renowned facialist and skincare specialist who has been in the business for over 15 years! So, this woman knows what she is talking about. The brand 'Superfacialist' is meant to be suitable for all skin types involving natural ingredients, highly researched scientific ingredients and lovely scents. Therefore, making cleansing your skin that much more enjoyable and feel like a little bit less of a chore.

The Basics

This product is friendly to all skin types, but I especially recommend it for oily/combination skin types. Now, you may be screaming at me through the computer screen right now but honestly cleansing oils are perfect for oily skin types. As, oily skin produces excess oil due to it not having enough to start with, so if you enrich your skin with natural, helpful skincare oil it can result in your skin producing less oil. This cleansing oil is meant to help with ageing (something I wasn't fussed about), but to also produce a healthy glow to the skin by reviving the skin and, giving it a fresher feel. It contains vitamin C, olive, grapeseed, cucumber, rosehip and rosemary oils and vitamin E.

How to use?

You use this daily to remove your makeup, or to just deeply cleanse the skin. You dispense a small amount in the palm of your hands and massage between your hands. Then gently rub into the face, disintegrating all your makeup and deeply cleaning your skin. Then, add water when you are ready to rinse it off and it will turn into a milky consistency. Finally, follow up with your normal cleanser to double cleanse which is recommended by Una Brennan.

The Review

I adore this product and are already on my second bottle. I think the packaging is also great, as it allows you to squeeze just the right amount out - preventing you from wasting any, and it also lets you see how much product is left. This was perfect for me when it came round to needing to repurchase it. This oil is amazing at takes off my make-up and even puts up a strong fight against any waterproof eye makeup I may be wearing. I also love this for taking off my makeup as it isn't harsh nor does it tug nor damage my skin which I used to find with cleansing wipes and other cleansers. So, the fact this is super gentle is perfect for my sensitive skin. Even more so, the smell of oranges is delicious and makes the use of this even more enjoyable. I will definitely be repurchasing my third bottle. Especially, as this didn't make my skin oiler or greasy.

Samples Review

Hello lovelies!

First of all I'd like to say a humongous apology for not updating my blog. I had a lot going on in the last few months, from university to exams! But now everything has calmed back down I feel I can finally devote my time back to this! A while back I received a tonne of free samples and have been meaning to do a review on them. I no longer have every single piece of packaging as once some had emptied I ended up throwing them away - so even though you can't see them they did exist!

A bulk of samples I received were from Kiehls - a brand that does pretty pricey skincare and I haven't really tried much from. But, previously I'd only heard raving reviews so was ultimately super excited to try anything and everything they threw at me. The first thing they sent me was the 'Rare Earth Deep Pore Daily Cleanser', which is designed to eliminate toxins and reduce the appearance of pores. I absolutely adored this and have already purchased the actual size. This didn't irritate my sensitive skin and left it unbelievably smooth; I used this as a morning cleanser. Second item I received was the 'Powerful Wrinkle Reducing Eye Cream', which I used nightly. I obviously don't have any wrinkles yet but I still really enjoyed using it. This is supposed to strengthen the under eye area, which is perfect for me as I have extremely bad dark circles - so hopefully after a more prolonged use it could reduce it. The third and final product by Kiehls was the famous 'Skin Rescuer', a moisturiser I used/use every night. This is honestly amazing and would recommend to anyone with dry or dehydrated skin, or just patches of redness. I'd heard multiple YouTuber's raving about this so was nervous about testing it, but after applying it at night and waking up in the morning all the redness has either gone or been extremely subdued on my cheeks! I repurchased this straight away after using the sample and believe this has now become a staple in my skincare.

The next sample I received was Sunday Riley's 'Good Genes', which is supposed to be a brightening, anti-age treatment/mask. I used this as a mask and found it left my skin red, really dry and tight. Also, it tingles quite a lot so for people with sensitive skin like myself, beware. So for the jaw-dropping price it is, I would not recommend it.

Philosophy was the next in line to be tested and I'd luckily received the much talked about 'Purity Made Simple' cleanser. This is a pretty simple cleanser that can be used for both the face and eyes, and doesn't actually irritate my eyes. I'd recommend this to a beginner to cleansers/skincare and any type of skin type - it worked lovely on my sensitive skin. I found this worked best applying to a cotton wool pad, rather than applying it directly to the face. But, ever since trying this out with my Clarisonic I've realised it's true potential! Furthermore, it smells lovely and you hardly need a large amount so even though it's quite pricey for how simple it is, it will last you ages.

Next up was the Body Shop with their 'Rainforest Moisture Hair Butter', which is supposed to leave hair soft, glossy and tangle-free. Unfortunately, for me even though the smell was a lovely fruity/foresty smell the product just didn't do anything for my hair. All it did was leave my hair heavy and waxy.

And last but not least, I tried the GlamGlow 'BrightMud Eye Treatment', that is designed to basically make your eyes look super awake and reduce your dark circles. As soon as I saw the claim on reducing dark circles I was instantly excited about trying it out. But sadly it didn't follow through, I found it stunk and product was awfully awkward to apply. And then after all the hassle of sorting it out and dealing with the stench it then did absolutely nothing, so for the price I most certainly would not recommend.

LUSH: Dark Angels Cleanser Review

Hey lovelies,

I thought I'd do a review on a cleanser I've been using religiously for a good three months now. I purchased the Lush 'Dark Angels' Cleanser for, £6.40. Now this is advertised as an exfoliating cleanser for people who need to get deep into pores and to assist with acne. 

Lush states:

with black sugar and charcoal to exfoliate, and rhassoul mud to deeply cleanse. We also use cold pressed avocado oil and vegetable glycerine to moisturise and soften your skin after all that scrubbing, leaving your skin feeling balanced and fresh. Sandalwood and rosewood oils give a rich, earthy fragrance and have a cooling and antiseptic effect on the skin. We buy our powdered charcoal locally in Dorset. It’s a great way to exfoliate and is deeply cleansing, whilst black sugar is in here to scrub away any dead skin cells, leaving you with bright, refreshed skin. 

Now, I wouldn't recommend this for any other skin types apart from extremely oily to acne prone - anyone with dry skin, steer clear. I purchased this in hopes to reduce the small collection of blackheads I have on my nose, as even though I have combination skin with dry areas on my cheeks I thought the end result would be worth it. 

Sadly it wasn't. I found it extremely rough - which I can't entirely complain about as it does state it's an exfoliating scrub/cleanser. But, ultimately left my skin pretty red which is not attractive. I also found it didn't do anything to reduce my blackheads or any other spots for that matter. Although, I do love how long the product lasts for due to needing such a small amount and that all the products are natural and not awful chemicals. 

I brightened up the image so you can see what the product looks like. It has a similar to feel to play-doh which is actually quite fun to use. I don't mind the smell, it smells quite fresh but does smell slightly similar to antiseptic - it grows on you. To use: You collect about a pea-sized amount in the palm of you hand and mix it together with warm water to form somewhat of a paste. I find, the less abrasive and harsh you want the more water you should add and mix in. Then finally delicately massage into the skin and then wash off. I must admit this is super messy! It gets everywhere and because it's black it screams stain danger, so I recommend keeping anything white or nice far, far away when using this product. I'd even say this is less messy than the Cupcake mask Lush do. I believe when this ultimately runs out I'm going to try the 'Angels on Bare Skin' being as it's similar but the softer, less abrasive version.

Dupe for Bioderma: L'Oréal Paris Skin Perfection 3 in 1 Purifying Micellar Solution

Hey lovelies!
Today I thought I'd do a review on a skincare product I've been using for a good three months now - it's the L'Oreal Paris Purifying Micellar solution.

Now for those of you who don't know what micellar solution is, it's pretty much water that removes and breaks down your make-up. It's similar in aspect to eye make-up remover but normally has additional benefits, such as it's also a cleanser and is normally extremely lightweight and gentle.

The L'Oreal solution claims to:

1. Dissolve make-up
2. Unclog pores and remove impurities
3. Tone and soothe skin 
4. It also states it's suitable for sensitive skin

I've used this at night to remove my make-up, especially my eye make-up by soaking it on a damp cotton wool pad and then lightly rubbing my face. I then go in after with a cleanser, twice (once to fully remove my make-up and the second to get into all my pores).

Now, firstly I agree with the fact it dissolves make-up as it does break down my eye make-up fairly easy but I wouldn't say it completely removes it. I definitely have to go in with at least a cleanser once, possibly twice after using this with make-up on. Furthermore, it's unscented which is great but I still find it stings my eyes every so often but that's as far as it goes for upsetting my skin. I've found it hasn't made any difference to unclog my pores nor toning my skin - especially as I use a separate product in my skincare for both of those things. I would say it doesn't soothe my skin either but ultimately it doesn't upset nor aggravate it. The one thing I love about it is how quick and easy it is to use for the cheap price is is. I love using this when I've come back from a late night out and I'm too tired, and possibly not in the right state, to remove my make-up properly. I would recommend this to the lazy skincare girls out there - this will be your lifesaver! Another thing I love about this product is the packaging (odd I know), I just really like that the packaging is so simple and you can see how much product you have left. Furthermore, how it's dispensed is great as it's really easy to control the amount you want, so you don't accidentally waste half a bottle on over soaking a cotton wool pad. 

Now, is it a dupe for the Bioderma? I'd say no. From the limited uses I've had of Bioderma, I'd say it doesn't compare. Although this product is fairly average if you're looking for a cheaper substitute I would try looking somewhere else. Although, if you're done with splashing out and wanted to settle for something that isn't as amazing as Bioderma than I'd definitely recommend giving this a go. I'd also say this is suitable for any and every skin type so do not fear in using this product. (Unless you're obviously allergic to a certain ingredient or are extremely sensitive then be careful)!

Spot-Fighting Drugstore Skincare Review

Sorry for the lack of posts but I've just been so busy with exam prep! I thought I'd do a post today reviewing three products I've been using for at least the past three months now, as I've been trying to reduce the amount of spots I get, read on to find out if it worked.

Clean & Clear Advantage Spot Treatment Gel

I bought this a while back in hopes I could tame any spots that appeared on my face through stress or just hormones, as my previous spot treatment didn't do a single thing, and wow did it work! Now I honestly love this treatment as even though there isn't a lot, it's cheap and you only need the tiniest of amounts. It states it will "After 4 Hours, spot size and redness are noticeably reduced". Now I can't comment on the four hours as I only apply spot treatments at night as I don't like how it sits under makeup but that could just be me. But after waking up my spot has either completely gone or dramatically reduced! I think I will definitely repurchase this and the fact there's still loads left when I've been using it pretty often highlights how much you actually get for the price.

The Body Shop Blackhead Tea Tree Exfoliating Wash

I've had this for a while back and after researching this wash to put a link to it when I uploaded this post I realised this is no longer being sold. But, honestly you're not missing out. I found this exfoliating wash did nothing for my face nor the blackheads on my nose I was trying to combat. The wash was a nice creamy texture which was the only plus side, but the fact it didn't reduce any blackheads - it's main purpose, I found left it to be a great disappointment. Even more so, the 'crushed apricot stones' were too harsh for my sensitive skin and even more so I could not use this as a wash. I had to limit my use to it to once-to-twice a week. 

Biore Warming Anti-Blackhead Cleanser

And last but not least, is Biore's anti-blackhead cleanser and this is undoubtedly my favourite product! I've purchased this for a second time and absolutely adore it. Firstly, it's cheap which is always positive. Secondly, it warms up when you're massaging it into the skin which is a) SO COOL and b) helps you realise it's actually doing something. Now, I must admit it didn't dramatically reduce the amount of blackheads I had but it reduced the amount of breakouts and also reduced the amount of spots I had that were under the skin. I also really like the smell and find it's just a really lovely product. But, although it's not too harsh I did find it better to limit it to using it every other day due to me having combination skin but besides that it's lovely! My only wish would be to change the packaging so that you could see how much product is left as you can't tell as it's all white.
